The Big River, now called Fraser; grey, fast, deep.

Charted but wild. The entire land locked

by mountains, ocean and artificial line called

border – yet, there too, right on the other side of

that invisible line, lies another wall:

the Cascades. Between these two walls is She, staľәẁ.

The vein carrying the lifeline of the Valley.

Called today a Fraser Valley. Living river,

like a huge Snake of Life, of good and bad.

staľәẁ the Lifegiver, and staľәẁ the Lifetaker.
